Almond blossom in Mallorca: when and where to film it by drone

For three or four weeks a year, inland Mallorca turns white and pink. The almond blossom is the island’s most photographed natural spectacle — and from the air it is something else entirely: the flowering canopies draw geometric patterns over the red earth that you cannot even guess at from the ground.

If you want that material — for a brand, a hotel, a tourism campaign or your own estate’s video — here is what you need to know.

When: the real window

Blossom runs, depending on the year and the area, from mid-January to late February, usually peaking in the first half of February. Higher areas flower later than the plain. Two details that matter:

• The peak lasts about ten days. After that the wind starts stripping petals and the pattern loses density. If the project depends on the blossom, plan with margin and a flexible date.
• The year rules. A warm winter brings flowering forward two weeks; a cold one delays it. We track the estates from January and give notice when the peak arrives.

Where: the best patterns from the air

• Son Servera and the Llevant: regular plantations with wide spacing — the cleanest patterns for top-down shots.
• The Pla (Sencelles, Costitx, Lloret): old almond groves between dry-stone walls, more texture than geometry. Spectacular evening light.
• Bunyola and the foot of the Tramuntana: blossom with the mountains behind — the most “Mallorca” shot of all.
• Selva and Caimari: almonds among olives and mountains, flowering slightly later.

How to film it well

Almond blossom is white over pale earth: at midday the contrast disappears and everything washes out. You shoot in the first two hours of the day or the last two, with low sun separating the canopies from the ground. The top-down shot demands peak blossom and regular spacing; the low shot between the rows works even with partial flowering.

February wind is treacherous: the good window is usually first thing in the morning, before the sea breeze picks up.

Who it makes sense for

• Hotels and agrotourisms: seasonal content that fills social media in the weakest booking month and sells an early spring.
• Local brands: oil, almonds, cosmetics. The blossom is their raw material told in images.
• Properties for sale: a video filmed in blossom sets the listing apart all year round.
• Tourism campaigns: January and February are the low season; the blossom is the argument against seasonality.

The 2027 window will start to be decided by December’s cold. If you want blossom footage, you book in January: once the almonds flower, the diary is full.
